Year 3 Studying Ancient Egypt

Year 3’s focus in DT has been on designing and creating our own gift boxes for an Egyptian section of a museum gift shop! As we have been studying Ancient Egypt in History, we have used our knowledge to inspire our designs. We started our unit by looking at different types of packaging and thinking about how and why they had been designed in their unique ways. We thought about purpose, materials, customers and design. Then we looked at how 3D packaging is made from a 2D net. We explored these nets and considered which ones we might use to fit our theme and purpose! Using this knowledge, we picked out the elements we wanted to use and created our own.
