Ilfracombe Church of England (VC) Junior School

Music & Performance

We have a fantastically equipped music room with wide range of resources and musical instruments including ukuleles, keyboards, a drum kit, pitched & un-pitched percussion.

All our children are taught music on a regular rotation by a music specialist teacher. Children have the opportunity to sing, play a variety of instruments, compose and record their music making & evaluate their own performances.

All the children participate in a wide range of performances and celebrations to wider audiences. Big events have included:

  • "The Art of Life" Performing Arts celebration at The Landmark Theatre – sell out performances!

  • Our "Living and Learning Festival" - a two day event opening the school to parents and community members to see our school at work and watch a variety of performances (music, dance, drama, gymnastics etc).

  • Attendance at "The Mix" festival in Exeter – a huge school-based festival offering children the chance to sing and perform with hundreds of children from all over Devon.

Our school orchestra is made up of children from Years 5 & 6, they enjoy playing together at all of the celebrations, concerts and festivals.

Music and Performing Arts clubs are held after school to enable children to work on specialised projects and develop performance skills.
